Marchtal Abbey, Premonstratensian monastery in Obermarchtal, Germany
The monastery complex contains three main buildings crowned by the minster church of Saints Peter and Paul on an elevated position.
Founded in 776 by Hugh II of Tübingen, the monastery transformed into an Imperial abbey in 1500 with voting rights in the Reichstag.
The former Premonstratensian abbey now functions as a teacher training academy under the management of the diocese of Rottenburg-Stuttgart since 1973.
Located at Klosteranlage 2/1, the abbey operates daily with check-in from 14:00 and check-out until 10:00, offering guided tours of the premises.
The monastery underwent a complete restoration after the Swedish forces damaged it during the Thirty Years' War, receiving a new church in 1701.
