Railway line 6613, Railway line in Meissen District, Germany
The Riesa-Nossen railway stretches for 33.5 kilometers through Saxony, connecting the towns of Riesa, Lommatzsch, and Nossen with standard gauge tracks.
The Leipzig-Dresdner Eisenbahn-Compagnie initiated construction in July 1875, opening the Riesa to Lommatzsch section in April 1877 and completing the line to Nossen by October 1880.
The railway line transformed the Lommatzscher Pflege region by enabling efficient transport of agricultural products, particularly sugar beets, throughout the early 20th century.
The line currently operates exclusively for freight transport to the tank depot Rhäsa from Nossen, with a maximum permitted speed of 60 kilometers per hour.
In 2018, the Nossen-Riesaer Eisenbahn-Compagnie restored passenger services on the Ziegenhain to Starbach segment after a twenty-year interruption.
