Ernst Thälmann memorial, Bronze memorial statue in Pankow, Germany
The Ernst Thälmann Memorial rises 14 meters high, constructed of bronze, granite, and concrete in Ernst-Thälmann-Park at the intersection of Greifswalder and Danziger streets.
Soviet sculptor Lev Kerbel created this monument in 1986 to commemorate Ernst Thälmann, the German Communist Party leader who was executed at Buchenwald concentration camp in 1944.
The memorial stands as part of a larger cultural complex that includes an indoor swimming pool, theater spaces, art galleries, and the Zeiss planetarium.
The monument has limited wheelchair accessibility and sits within a residential area that houses 4,000 people, near public transportation connections in northeast Berlin.
The bronze sculpture has transformed into a recognized skateboarding destination, drawing professional athletes from various countries to practice their techniques on its structure.
