Erlöserkirche, Hamburg-Borgfelde, Lutheran church building in Borgfelde, Germany
The Erlöserkirche features a simple gabled roof design with minimal decorative elements, incorporating high windows made of plain glass and a three-nave interior space.
Built in 1952 as Hamburg's first post-World War II church, the Erlöserkirche replaced its 1903 predecessor, which was destroyed during the Hamburg firestorm of July 1943.
The church functions as the Afrika-Zentrum Nord, hosting regular services for Ghanaian Christians and international gospel services that connect Hamburg's diverse religious communities.
Located at Jungestraße 7 in Hamburg's Borgfelde district, the church offers regular worship services, community gatherings, and operates the Café Mandela twice monthly.
A memorial wall designed by Hans Kock in 1955 stands on the church's eastern side, commemorating casualties from both World Wars.
