The Oberste Stadtkirche St. Marien features two naves, a transept, and combines Gothic and Romanesque architectural elements in its structural design.
Originally constructed in the early 14th century, the church's towers were destroyed in the city fire of 1500 and subsequently rebuilt to their current form.
The carved winged altar, created around 1400, displays 18 apostle and saint figures alongside a crucifixion group in its elevated central section.
The church contains a Karl Schuke organ from 1972-1973 with 42 registers across three manuals and pedals, operated through mechanical tractures.
The church houses eight artistic panels depicting scenes from Mary's life, created by the Master of Iserlohn's Marian Life around 1450.
