The beam bridge spans across the Lusatian Nysa River, creating a connection point between Germany and Poland with a length of 380 meters.
The original structure from 1875 was destroyed in 1945 during World War II, replaced by a temporary wooden bridge before its modern reconstruction.
The bridge received its current name in 2006 to honor Pope John Paul II, with commemorative plaques installed at both German and Polish entrances.
The structure accommodates passenger cars, buses up to 7.5 tons, cyclists, and pedestrians, serving as a primary crossing point between the two cities.
The bridge intersects with the 15th meridian east and forms part of the Germany-Poland border, marking a geographical reference point between both nations.
