Schloss Fröhliche Wiederkunft, Renaissance hunting lodge in Trockenborn-Wolfersdorf, Germany
The castle stands on an artificial island surrounded by a pond, featuring an L-shaped structure with a stone base and half-timbered upper floors.
Elector Johann Friedrich I commissioned the construction of this hunting lodge between 1548 and 1550, following the destruction of a previous building during the Schmalkaldic War.
The castle received its name 'Fröhliche Wiederkunft' when Elector Johann Friedrich I reunited with his family here in 1552 after his release from imprisonment.
Visitors can explore the castle from Tuesday to Friday between 13:00 and 17:00, and on weekends from 10:00 until 17:00, with guided tours available upon reservation.
The castle houses an observatory installed in 1922 by Herzog Ernst II of Sachsen-Altenburg, who lived there after his abdication following World War I.
