Château de Tonquédec, Medieval castle in Côtes-d'Armor, France
The castle stands on a hilltop position, featuring defensive towers, fortified walls, and the remains of a moat near the commune of Tonquédec.
Built in the 15th century on foundations from the 12th century, the castle underwent partial dismantling in 1395 by order of John IV, Duke of Brittany.
The castle represents medieval French military architecture and demonstrates the power structures of feudal Brittany through its strategic defensive features.
Visitors can explore the castle ruins from April to October, with guided tours available during summer months and informational materials in multiple languages.
The property remains in possession of descendants from the original builders, the House of Coëtmen-Penthièvre, now under Count and Countess de Rougé.
