Courbessac menhir, Prehistoric standing stone in Courbessac, France

The limestone monolith rises 2.17 meters high and measures 1 meter in width, standing near the Avignon road and Nîmes-Courbessac airfield.

First documented by Felix Mazauric in 1906, this megalithic monument from 2500 BCE received official protection status as a classified historical monument in 1936.

The standing stone represents early human settlement patterns in southern France and provides evidence of prehistoric ceremonial practices in the Nîmes region.

Visitors can reach the archaeological site by following the Avignon road in the Courbessac district, where informational panels explain the monument's significance.

This megalithic structure maintains its original position and composition, serving as a territorial marker that has endured for over four millennia.
