Asakuchi, Coastal city in Okayama Prefecture, Japan

Asakuchi stretches along the Seto Inland Sea, featuring mountain ranges including Mount Yosho and Mount Chikurinji in its northern section.

Three independent towns - Kamogata, Konko, and Yorishima - merged on March 21, 2006 to establish the current city of Asakuchi.

The Kyoto University Okayama Astronomical Observatory in Asakuchi houses one of Asia's largest telescopes and includes an astronomical museum.

The city connects to major urban areas through the Sanyo Main Line railway and Sanyo Expressway, making it accessible from Fukuyama and Kurashiki.

The Yorishima district contains the only natural glasswort fields on Honshu island, which turn red during autumn months.
