Charyn Canyon, Canyon in Kazakhstan
Charyn Canyon is a canyon on the Sharyn River in Kazakhstan, 200 kilometres east of Almaty.
The canyon has been described as the Grand Canyon's little brother and is considered to be approximately 12 million years old.
It is part of the Charyn National Park, which was established on 23 February 2004, and is located within the territory of the Uygur District, Raiymbek District and Enbekshikazakh District.
The canyon can be accessed by car through a well-maintained asphalt road.
The canyon's most distinct feature is the Castles Valley, a stretch of land featuring naturally formed stone statues.
