Jelgava Palace, Baroque palace in Jelgava, Latvia.

The palace stands on an island between the Lielupe River branches, featuring a grand architectural design with extensive facades and symmetrical proportions.

Construction began in 1738 under architect Francesco Bartolomeo Rastrelli, but work halted in 1740 when Ernst Johann von Biron fell from favor.

The palace contains a burial vault housing 21 metal sarcophagi and nine wooden coffins belonging to the Dukes of Courland and their families.

The Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies currently occupies the palace, offering guided tours and educational facilities to visitors.

During the French Revolution period, exiled French nobles attempted to recreate the ceremonial traditions of Versailles within the palace walls.
