Allard Pierson Museum

The Allard Pierson Museum displays artifacts from ancient civilizations, including Egypt, Greece, Rome, and the Near East, dating from 4000 BC to 500 AD.

The museum originated from the personal collection of Jan Six, the second archaeology professor at the University of Amsterdam, which was established as a foundation in 1932.

The Egyptian section contains mummies, sarcophagi, and pyramid models, while Greek and Roman areas showcase ceramics, sculptures, coins, and daily life objects.

Located at Oude Turfmarkt 127, the museum opens Tuesday through Friday from 10:00 to 17:00, with weekend hours from 13:00 to 17:00, offering guided tours in multiple languages.

The museum features a computer system where visitors can generate their names written in ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics, connecting modern technology with historical writing systems.
