The Koninklijke Bibliotheek contains seven million publications including books, newspapers, magazines, and maps stored across 115 kilometers of bookshelves.
Founded in November 1798, the library received its royal designation in 1806 from King Louis Bonaparte and moved to its current modern building in 1982.
The library maintains comprehensive collections of Dutch literature, historical documents, and valuable antiquities, including medieval manuscripts and illustrated books from the 16th century.
Researchers and visitors can access reading rooms, digital resources, and interlibrary loan services through annual memberships that provide entry to over 150 digital collections.
The institution preserves approximately two billion digital files and houses the Trivulzio Book of Hours, a medieval manuscript with detailed Flemish miniature art.
