Gryf Castle, Medieval castle in Proszówka, Poland
The fortified castle complex sits atop Castle Mountain at 462 meters elevation, featuring upper, middle, and lower sections constructed from black basalt and slate.
The castle's first documented mention dates to 1305, serving as a strategic stronghold for the princes of Świdnica-Jawor near the border with Bohemia.
The Renaissance architecture of Gryf Castle incorporates profiled window surrounds, sgraffito decorations, and vaulted ceilings throughout its multiple levels.
The castle remains stand in relatively good condition despite partial demolition in 1798, with access available through prior appointment arrangements.
The castle structure follows an elongated pentagonal design measuring 33 by 28 meters, lacking a central tower but featuring a distinctive two-story Tall House.
