Yuryev-Polsky, Historical town in Vladimir Oblast, Russia
Yuryev-Polsky sits at an elevation of 140 meters along the upper reaches of the Koloksha River, 68 kilometers northwest of Vladimir city.
Prince Yury Dolgoruky established the settlement in 1152, naming it after Saint George and adding Polsky to distinguish it from another fortress in present-day Estonia.
The Cathedral of Saint George, built between 1230 and 1234, contains numerous stone sculptures and served as a model for early Moscow Kremlin churches.
The town population numbers 17,276 residents as of 2021, with primary access through regional roads connecting to the larger city of Vladimir.
The Monastery of Archangel Michael, dating from the 13th century, includes multiple structures from the 17th and 18th centuries within its fortified walls.
