Galata Tower, Medieval stone tower in Istanbul, Turkey.

The Galata Tower is a nine-story tower that provides panoramic views of the historic city of Istanbul and its surrounding areas.

Constructed in 1348 during an expansion of the Genoese colony in Constantinople, it was the tallest building in Istanbul at the time.

The tower has been mentioned in various works of literature and is a popular tourist destination, hosting a restaurant and café on its upper floors.

Visitors can reach the top via two elevators or by climbing the seven floors.

Legend has it that in the 17th century, Hezarfen Ahmet Celebi flew as an early aviator from this tower across the Bosphorus to the slopes of Uskudar on the Anatolian side.
