Mhar Monastery, Orthodox monastery in Mhar, Ukraine
The Transfiguration Cathedral displays seven domes and two towers on its main facade, situated on a hill near the Sula River.
Isaiah Kopinsky and Princess Raina Vyshnevetska established the monastery in 1619, replacing earlier wooden structures with stone buildings in subsequent years.
The Mhar Chronicle, written between the 17th and 18th centuries within the monastery walls, documents religious life and regional historical events.
The monastery complex includes the main cathedral, a bell tower, Saint Athanasius Church, and residential buildings for monks along the Kyiv-Kharkiv route.
The remains of Patriarch Athanasius III of Constantinople rest in the monastery, where he died in 1654 during his return journey from Moscow.
