Дом Советов

The House of Soviets is an administrative building in Cherkasy with a rectangular form, interior courtyard, and semicircular assembly hall positioned at the rear. The structure features symmetrical facades with monumental proportions characteristic of Soviet administrative centers.

The building was constructed in 1959 as part of a standardized program of identical administrative centers built across several Soviet cities including Penza, Lipetsk, and Novgorod. This approach reflected Soviet planning ideology that emphasized uniform development across the socialist union.

The building displays Soviet monumental classicism through Tuscan columns and pilasters adorned with wheat sheaves and labor symbols carved into the facade. Visitors can observe how these decorative choices reflected the values and ideology of that era in the structure's design.

The building currently serves as the headquarters of the regional administration and continues to function as an active administrative center. Visitors should be aware that access may be limited since it remains an official government building with restricted public entry to certain areas.

The facade displays a carved cartouche containing the Soviet state coat of arms that rises symmetrically from the edges toward the center of the upper entablature. This central ornamental element remains one of the building's most distinctive visual features.
