The Dakota, Residential building in New York City

The Dakota is a luxury, cooperative apartment building located on the northwest corner of 72nd Street and Central Park West in the Upper West Side of Manhattan in New York City.

Constructed between 1880 and 1884, The Dakota was designed by Henry Janeway Hardenbergh, who also designed the Plaza Hotel.

The Dakota is known for its famous residents, including John Lennon, who was murdered outside the building in 1980.

The Dakota is not open to the public, but can be viewed from the outside.

The Dakota was one of the first luxury apartment buildings in New York and certainly the most lavish.
