Temple of the Gadde

The Temple of the Gadde spans 42 meters north-south and 22 meters east-west, containing two courtyards with separate entrances and multiple ceremonial rooms.

Archaeological excavations between 1934 and 1936 by French and American teams from Yale University revealed limestone reliefs dating back to 159 CE.

The temple housed sacred spaces for worshipping Gad deities, with inscriptions and artifacts indicating strong connections to Palmyrene religious traditions.

The temple structure incorporates local building materials including mudbrick, plaster, and stone, demonstrating construction methods from the Roman period.

Excavators discovered 21 amulets in a foundation deposit beneath the sanctuary, providing evidence of specific religious practices at the site.
