Poltava Art Museum, Art museum in Poltava, Ukraine.
The Poltava Art Museum is an art museum housed in a restored building with three exhibition halls on the first floor. The space displays paintings, sculptures, porcelain, and decorative arts collected over more than a century of acquisition.
The museum was founded in 1919 when painter Nikolai Yaroshenko donated his collection to establish the institution. Over the following decades, the holdings expanded significantly as donations and acquisitions added to the original core of works.
The collection spans European masters alongside Ukrainian artists from different periods, showing how artistic traditions have evolved. Walking through the halls, you encounter paintings, sculptures, ceramics, and decorative works that reveal the region's creative heritage.
The museum is open Wednesday through Sunday with regular exhibitions and cultural events throughout the year. The first floor houses all three exhibition halls, making it easy to navigate and see the collection during your visit.
Two significant paintings stolen in the 1990s, including Delacroix's 'Night Battle with the Turks', were eventually recovered and returned to the collection. Their return represents an important moment in the museum's effort to preserve its heritage.
