Globe Theatre, Theatre in London
The Globe Theatre is a world-renowned performing arts venue, tourist attraction and icon of Elizabethan London.
Built in 1599 by the playing company the Lord Chamberlain's Men, to which Shakespeare belonged, it was destroyed by fire in 1613.
The Globe Theatre has been fundamental in showcasing many of William Shakespeare's greatest plays.
Today, visitors can experience live performances, tours, and exhibitions at the reconstructed theatre.
The Globe is the only building in London allowed to have a thatched roof since the Great Fire in 1666.
