Kit Carson County, Administrative county in eastern Colorado, United States
Kit Carson County spans 2,161 square miles of high plains and farmland along the Kansas border, containing six primary residential communities and Burlington as its seat.
The county received its official establishment in 1889, taking the name of frontiersman Kit Carson who guided expeditions through the American West during territorial expansion.
The Kit Carson County Carousel and Museum in Burlington preserves a 1905 wooden carousel featuring hand-carved animals and original paint from Philadelphia craftsmen.
The county maintains three public swimming pools, three golf courses, and multiple community parks distributed among its municipalities of Burlington, Bethune, Flagler, Seibert, Stratton, and Vona.
Each summer, residents and visitors gather at the Kit Carson County Fair and Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association event, continuing agricultural traditions from past generations.
