Shopping City Süd, Retail complex in Vösendorf, Austria
Shopping City Süd is a large retail development in Vösendorf near Vienna, spreading over two floors and housing more than 330 shops. The complex divides into several sections with wide corridors, and shops arrange themselves around two open courtyards.
The center opened in September 1976 following plans by Hans Dujsik and represented the first major step toward modern retail architecture in Austria at that time. Over the following decades, the complex underwent several expansions that continuously enlarged the offer.
The name reflects its position south of the capital, and families from several provinces now gather in the outdoor areas between buildings. On weekends, both squares fill with visitors who stop to rest or arrange meetings there.
Access is either by tram to Vösendorf SCS or via the A2 motorway exit, where around 10,000 parking places are available. Inside the center, wide corridors and escalators lead between the two levels, making orientation straightforward.
The complex received a four-star quality certification as one of the few shopping centers in the country, which undergoes regular review. With around 24 million visitors per year, it ranks among the most frequented retail places in Austria.
