Burgruine Taggenbrunn, Medieval castle ruins in Sankt Georgen am Längsee, Austria.

Description

Burgruine Taggenbrunn is a medieval castle ruin set at 616 meters elevation, featuring defensive walls and a central tower that overlooks the surrounding Carinthian landscape. The stone structure commands views across the valleys and water below.

History

The castle was built in 1142 by Tagenus von Pongau for the Archdiocese of Salzburg. It later served as a residence for Carinthian governors until the 15th century.

Culture

The site hosts classical music performances and opera productions that take place regularly within its walls. These events shape how people experience and gather at this location today.

Practical

A lift brings visitors comfortably to the upper levels. The site can be windy, so dress in layers depending on the season.
