Sillian, Market town in East Tirol, Austria
Sillian is a market town set in the Hochpustertal Valley at 1,103 meters elevation, tucked between the Italian border and surrounding mountain ranges. The settlement spreads across slopes with views toward the Villgraten Mountains and Carnic Alps.
The town gained market privileges from Count Leonhard of Gorizia in 1469, establishing itself as a regional trade hub. These rights allowed it to grow as an important commercial center in the Pustertal region.
The parish church has shaped the town's character since its consecration in 1326 and anchors community gatherings. Visitors can join June celebrations when mountain peaks light up with fire during the summer solstice season.
The town sits on the Drau Cycle Path and offers access to several ski areas with a total of 22 kilometers of groomed slopes. Those wanting to alternate between summer hiking and winter skiing will find year-round options here.
The Thurntaler cable car connects the town directly to ski terrain at 2,407 meters elevation. With the YellowSnowpark and Kammabfahrt slope, it provides access to runs that appeal to different skill levels.
