Wannig, Mountain summit in Tyrol, Austria.
Wannig is a mountain peak in Tyrol reaching 2,493 meters (8,180 feet) in elevation and marking the western edge of the Mieming Range. Its southern slopes drop away steeply with notable rock formations that define its appearance.
The first recorded ascent took place on August 28, 1894, when mountaineers L. Höß and G. Beyrer reached the summit via the western route. This climb marked the beginning of the peak's recreational development.
Visitors can spot remnants of past mining work in the surrounding area, where people once extracted lead and zinc from the ground. This mining activity was part of the region's economic life for many generations.
Two main trailheads provide access for hikers: one near the summer-toboggan run in Biberwier and another in Nassereith, both reachable via road 179. Free parking is available at both starting points.
The north face presents a technical climbing challenge rated at UIAA III for experienced mountaineers. The popular western standard route passes through a section known locally as the Green Wanne.
