Schloss Bruck, Medieval castle in Lienz, Austria
The castle stands on a hill against the Dolomites, featuring Gothic and Renaissance architectural elements with a prominent tower and round chapel.
Built between 1252 and 1277, Schloss Bruck served as the residence of the Counts of Gorizia until 1500, when the last count died without heirs.
The castle museum displays over 100 original works by artist Albin Egger-Lienz and contains late Gothic frescoes by Simon von Taisten in its chapel.
The Museum of Lienz at Schloss Bruck spans 1,000 square meters of exhibition space and organizes annual special exhibitions focusing on regional history.
The castle chapel features a Romanesque beamed ceiling and contains medieval wall paintings that rank among the finest artistic works in the Alpine region.
