Schloss Bruck

Schloss Bruck rises on a hilltop, blending Gothic and Renaissance elements with a prominent tower and round chapel housing the Museum of Lienz. The building contains regional artworks, historical objects, and medieval wall paintings across its exhibition rooms.

The castle was built between 1252 and 1277 and served as the seat of the Counts of Gorizia until 1500. Following the death of the last count without heirs, it changed hands and became part of a new chapter in the region's story.

The chapel displays works by local artist Albin Egger-Lienz and preserves late Gothic frescoes painted by Simon von Taisten. These artworks reflect the artistic heritage that continues to shape how people in the region view their past.

The climb to the castle is straightforward and the hilltop location offers good views across town and the surrounding landscape. Comfortable shoes are helpful since the approach involves a gentle slope.

The chapel features a Romanesque beamed ceiling that stands apart from the Gothic frescoes many visitors focus on. This architectural element reflects an earlier period and deserves closer attention during a visit.
