Birthplace of Franz Liszt, Museum in Raiding, Austria.
Liszt's birthplace is a stone residential building in Raiding, Austria, originally constructed as part of an Esterházy estate. It contains several living rooms, a kitchen with pantry, and additional chambers that now serve as museum spaces.
The complex was built during the Baroque period and became part of the Esterházy family holdings between 1806 and 1808. Franz Liszt was born here in 1811 and spent his formative years within these walls.
The rooms show how music and daily life were intertwined in a household of that era. Visitors can see objects and furnishings that reflect the world a young musician would have known.
The museum is currently closed for renovations and is expected to reopen in spring 2025. The adjacent Liszt-Zentrum continues to host concerts and cultural events.
Adjacent to the historic house stands a modern concert hall built in 2006 with 600 seats, designed with particular attention to acoustic qualities. This building received an architecture award in 2008 and creates a direct bridge between Liszt's birthplace and contemporary musical performance.
