Karmelitenkloster Maria Schnee, Graz

The Carmelite monastery Maria Schnee in Graz is a monastic complex with a church and buildings arranged in a distinctive hook shape across three floors. The structure defines the area with its classical facade located at the foot of Reinerkogel hill.

The site was first known in 1553 as a pilgrimage chapel dedicated to Maria Schnee and later became a shrine. In 1844, architect Georg Hauberrisser designed the current monastery after the Carmelites returned to establish their community here.

The name Maria Schnee refers to a tradition of Marian devotion that has been practiced at this location for centuries. Visitors can see many religious artworks in the church that reflect this spiritual practice today.
