Schloss Ulmerfeld

Schloss Ulmerfeld is a medieval castle complex in Amstetten featuring a defensive tower rising 23 meters high. The site contains a Gothic chapel with preserved wall paintings and a columned hall used for events.

The castle was founded in 995 when King Otto III transferred the site to the Bishop of Freising. Over the centuries it served as an important seat of power before eventually falling into decline.

The castle served as a gathering place for local celebrations and community events throughout the centuries. Today it hosts concerts and theater performances that remain part of the region's social life.

The site is accessible on foot with walking paths through the surrounding Mostviertel landscape. Wearing comfortable shoes is recommended, as access to the tower involves stairs and the grounds are uneven in places.

The tower houses a notable collection of over 400 historical weapons and armor from different periods. This private weapons collection provides insights into past military equipment and warfare methods.
