Schloss Sigmundsried, Ried im Oberinntal, Medieval castle in Ried im Oberinntal, Austria
The three-story tower of Schloss Sigmundsried stands at the southwestern edge of Ried im Oberinntal on an elevated Inn River terrace.
The castle was expanded into a hunting lodge in 1471 by Duke Sigmund and served as a court seat from 1550 to 1978.
The castle features a medieval dungeon in its basement, which later became a storage cellar for provisions.
Visitors can join guided tours of Schloss Sigmundsried from May through September by contacting the cultural association at +43 680 444 2656.
The castle's strategic position allowed control over the ancient Via Claudia Augusta, a Roman military road crossing the Reschen Pass.
