Schloss Ladendorf

Schloss Ladendorf is a Baroque castle north of the village with four wings arranged around a rectangular courtyard. The structure contains roughly 128 windows and is surrounded by remnants of an old moat that hints at its former defensive purpose.

First mentioned in 1170 when controlled by the Ladendorf family, the castle passed through many hands over the centuries. The Huck family acquired it in 1928 from the Khevenhüller-Metsch dynasty, marking a significant shift in ownership.

The main ceremonial hall displays ornate decorations that reflect how noble families gathered and celebrated here for generations. The space shows the importance this place held in the social life of the region.

The castle sits on a hillside and is easily visible from a distance, which helps with orientation in the area. Visitors should know that parts of the building remain in private hands, so planning ahead is wise.

The building suffered major damage from Bohemian mercenaries in medieval times and later from French troops in the early 1800s. This turbulent military history has shaped the castle as it appears today.
