Stubnerkogel

Stubnerkogel is a mountain summit near Bad Gastein that rises to around 2,200 meters with steep terrain and a small peak area. The slopes descend sharply into surrounding valleys and alpine country.

Tourism developed here in the early 20th century when a cable car system was first built to reach the peak. This infrastructure opened access to what had been a remote destination.

Herders still bring livestock to graze on the slopes during summer months, a practice that shapes the landscape and the pace of life here. This routine reminds visitors of how mountain communities have historically used these spaces.

The cable car brings visitors up in decent weather, but arriving early helps avoid clouds that often roll in during the day. Bring warm layers since temperatures drop significantly at this height.

A high-altitude suspension bridge system links the peak to a viewing platform with sight lines toward Austria's tallest mountain. This engineering feature creates an unusual experience up here.
