Monastery of San Miguel de Escalada

The monastery church features three aisles divided by columns and horseshoe arches, with their apses and a crossing without a central tower.

The monastery was established in 913 by Abbot Alfonso and other monks who relocated from Córdoba during the reign of García I.

The monument represents Mozarabic architecture, combining Islamic and Christian elements in its design, particularly visible in the twelve horseshoe arches of the porch.

The site maintains extended visiting hours during spring and summer months, with entrance fees waived on designated days throughout the year.

The monastery houses a meridional porch supported by twelve horseshoe arches constructed in two different phases, incorporating marble shafts from Roman structures.
