San Esteban de Gormaz

San Esteban de Gormaz sits between the Duero River and a small hill, with two Romanesque churches and a medieval castle occupying its highest point. The settlement is laid out so that the river forms a natural boundary while the elevated castle position surveys the entire valley below.

The town hosted the first Cortes of Castile in 1187, a gathering that reshaped regional administrative structures. This event made it a focal point for political and legal developments on the medieval Iberian Peninsula.
