Basilica of Our Lady of Mercy

The Basilica of Our Lady of Mercy features a dome topped with a statue of Our Lady visible from the seaside promenade near the drassanes.

Built between 1765 and 1775 by architect Josep Mas i Dordal, the church received its minor basilica title from Pope Benedict XV in 1918.

The basilica maintains a central role in Barcelona's religious life as the home of the Virgin of Mercy statue, carried during September festival processions.

Located at Plaza de la Merce 1-2, the basilica opens daily from 9:00 AM to 1:30 PM and 4:30 PM to 8:00 PM with masses in Spanish and Catalan.

The church houses a crypt containing the remains of Saint Eulalia, who served as Barcelona's patron saint before the Virgin of Mercy.
