Suda de Tortosa, Arabic fortress in Tortosa, Spain

The Zuda Castle stands on a central hill in Tortosa's old town, featuring square defensive towers and extensive walls overlooking the historic center.

Built in the 10th century during Abd-al-Rahman III's caliphate, the castle later became a royal residence for King James I of Catalonia.

The castle contains the only open-air Islamic necropolis in Catalonia, preserving elements from multiple historical periods including Roman and Arab structures.

The castle functions as a Parador Nacional hotel since 1972, offering accommodation and dining options while maintaining its architectural elements.

A deep central well system connects underground galleries containing ancient silos, mills, and ovens that supplied the fortress during sieges.
