El Fondo Natural Park

The natural park spans 2,495 hectares with two main lagoons: Levante at 450 hectares and Poniente at 650 hectares, fed by the Segura River.

During the 1920s, the Compañía de Riegos de Levante constructed two water reservoirs to collect and distribute water from the Segura River to local farmers.

The park serves as a critical conservation site for 172 bird species, including endangered marbled teals and white-headed ducks that nest in the protected environment.

Three designated routes traverse the park: two walking paths and one bicycle trail, each offering different perspectives of the wetland ecosystems.

The lagoons contain varied water depths and salinity levels, supporting specialized species like the Spanish toothcarp, an endemic fish of the Mediterranean region.
