Castell de Tamarit

The coastal fortress stands on a rocky promontory with three-nave Romanesque church, ancient municipal prisons, and two defensive towers within its walls.

Built during the 12th century as part of a network of fifty castles along the Gaià River, the structure protected the region from maritime attacks.

The castle represents pure Romanesque architecture with its barrel-vault ceiling church, straight chevet, and preserved medieval structural elements.

The castle remains open on Mondays and can be reached via bus line 12 to the Castell de Tamarit stop, located 10 kilometers from Tarragona.

The fortress currently serves as a venue for wedding ceremonies while maintaining its status as a Cultural Asset of National Interest.
