Abbey Saint-Jean de Laon, Medieval Benedictine abbey in Laon, France.

Saint-Jean Abbey features a classified chapel portal and an eighteenth-century monumental staircase in the center of Laon.

Founded in 641 by Sadalberga, the abbey grew into a substantial monastery housing 300 nuns under the direction of its first abbess.

The abbey scriptorium, containing over 300 books, played a central role in developing the school of Laon and regional religious education.

The abbey buildings, located at 1 Rue des Chenizelles, now serve as administrative offices for the Aisne prefecture.

An anonymous seventeenth-century painting depicting Sadalberga's arrival in Laon is displayed at the local Art and Archaeology Museum.
