Le Bateau-Lavoir, Artists' residence in Paris
Bateau-Lavoir is a building located in the Montmartre district of the 18th arrondissement of Paris that is famous for its past as an artists' residence.
It was here that Picasso painted one of his most famous works, Les Demoiselles d'Avignon, in 1907.
The Bateau-Lavoir has been a melting pot of artistic creativity, hosting artists such as Amedeo Modigliani and Henri Matisse.
Today, it serves as a cultural center with exhibitions and artist studios.
Its name 'Bateau-Lavoir', which translates to 'Laundry Boat', was coined by French poet Max Jacob due to its resemblance to the laundry boats on the Seine.
