The Paris Observatory is the foremost astronomical observatory of France, and one of the largest astronomical centers in the world.
Founded in 1667 by Louis XIV, it houses a collection of historical astronomical instruments in its museum.
It has been a monumental figure in the development of astronomy and science in France and Europe.
The observatory is located in the 14th arrondissement, on the left bank of the Seine.
It is home to the International Time Bureau which maintains the international time standard.
