Tour Pey-Berland, Gothic bell tower near Saint-André Cathedral in Bordeaux, France

The Pey-Berland Tower stands 66 meters tall with a golden statue of Our Lady of Aquitaine at its summit overlooking the city of Bordeaux.

Archbishop Pey Berland initiated the construction of this independent bell tower in 1440 to protect the cathedral from structural damage caused by heavy bells.

The tower features four monumental bells, including the Ferdinand André II which weighs 8 tons and rings during religious celebrations and church events.

Visitors can climb 233 steps to reach two observation terraces at 40 and 50 meters high, offering views across the urban landscape of Bordeaux.

The tower served multiple purposes throughout history, including functioning as a lead shot manufacturing facility during the post-revolutionary period.
