Built in 1843 to replace a deteriorating 17th-century structure, the basilica underwent additional construction between 1890 and 1899 for its western section and bell tower.
The basilica houses the Saint-Gervais Treasury, containing numerous liturgical objects and religious artifacts, including the head relic of Saint Aubert.
