Fosse n° 9 - 9 bis des mines de Dourges

The mining site features two mine shafts reaching depths of 828 and 578 meters, with multiple extraction levels and administrative buildings spread across the grounds.

The last coal miners emerged from Shaft 9-9bis on December 20, 1990, marking the final closure of coal mining operations in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region.

The site includes the Métaphone concert hall, inaugurated in 2013, which transformed the industrial heritage into a center for musical performances and cultural events.

Visitors can explore the preserved mining structures, including the pit frames and machinery that received historical monument status classification in 1994.

Four mining communities were built near the complex, including the Declercq garden city from 1933, now part of the UNESCO World Heritage designation.
