Brest cableway, Urban aerial tramway in Brest, France
The cable car system spans 420 meters across the Penfeld river, connecting the city center with the Capucins district through two spacious cabins.
Launched in November 2016, this transportation system marked a milestone as the first urban cable car in France designed for daily commuter service.
The cable car system transformed the former military workshops area into a modern eco-district, creating a new cultural and residential hub in Brest.
Each cabin accommodates 60 passengers and operates from early morning until late night, completing the river crossing in three minutes at regular intervals.
The system incorporates fourteen supercapacitors that capture energy during descent phases to power subsequent ascents, minimizing electrical consumption from the grid.
