Ein Netafim is a natural spring in the Eilat Mountains that flows year-round with fresh water. The spring creates a vital water source for the wildlife across this arid landscape.
The spring influenced boundary negotiations between the British Empire and Ottoman Empire in this region during colonial times. Those historical divisions ultimately shaped the modern border between Israel and Egypt.
Local wildlife, including gazelles, goats, rabbits, and numerous bird species, gather at the spring during evening hours to drink.
The spring sits about 7 kilometers north of Eilat near Route 12 and is accessible by car. Early morning or evening hours offer the best chances to watch animals coming to drink at the water source.
This is the only permanent natural water source across the entire Eilat Mountains. Without it, the local wildlife population would struggle to survive in this harsh desert region.
