Ybbs, River in Lower Austria, Austria
The Ybbs is a river in Lower Austria that flows for about 134 kilometers through forests and valleys toward the east. It receives water from tributaries along its course and eventually joins the Danube near Ybbs an der Donau.
The river flows through a region with deep historical roots where trade and crafts flourished in medieval times. The valleys later became important centers for metalworking and forestry industries.
The valley is used by locals and visitors for water activities and riverside walks that connect small towns together. Communities along the banks maintain traditional gathering spots where people stop to enjoy the flow of the water.
The best time to visit is from May through September when the water is pleasant and the paths are dry. Marked walking trails and boating access points are scattered along the river and easy to reach from nearby roads.
The river changes its name several times along its course, beginning as the Weiße Ois in the mountains. These name changes follow natural boundaries and reflect local traditions in different valley communities.
